Every successful military leader has had large doses of luck. Washington was a leader no doubt about that, however he had more than his fair share of luck. Breaks with the weather saved his army more than once. Having a bit of luck does nothing to diminish their skills because they were able to take advantage of the fates good fortune.

Read the book Almost a Miracle by John Ferling. It's all about the American victory in the Revolution. The title pretty well sums it up. After reading it, I concluded that Washington was the right man for the job for more reasons than just his military skill (or lack of it) and that our win was as the title says, almost a miracle. There was as much luck as skill. There were many times British generals didn't do something they should have that might have made a big difference. Lots of other things that were just plain dumb luck. Excellent book.

Yes there are better ways to access your subconscious mind to help you build self esteem that are better and less expensive than hypnosis or hypnotherapy

Both. But a whole lot of leadership was involved.

for example:
Battle of Monmouth... He rescued a lost battle through leadership.
Valley Forge .. Stayed with his troops = Leadership
Battle of Trenton ... Leadership .. marched with troops.

Leadership skills, but not his own.

George Washington was a mediocre Lt. Colonel in the Royal Army, and was later promoted to a mediocre General in the Continental Army. He proved himself incapable of adapting to various terrains.

His strategy was to handle warfare like he did as a British soldier. He would line up his army against the opposing army, and then let everyone take potshots at each other until finally one side broke and ran for it. Unfortunately, with his significantly smaller Continental Army, he had his *ss handed to him on a number of occasions. He lost all confidence, and soon began running from even the easy fights.

Fortunately, Washington did have commanders in the Continental Army who were far more adaptive. They realized that they were smaller in number, and chose to use tactics they had seen the Native Americans use against the British Army. That would be hiding behind trees and rocks and other stuff like that, and then shooting the enemy, only to hide behind the tree again for protection. These hit-and-run tactics proved to be quite successful against the British Army.

Later, the French would join the war. And while Washington continued to be fearful and run from fights; the French General LaFayette was finally able to convince him to step back into some fights. Armed with new tactics and new allies, Washington began winning a few fights again. His confidence returned.

And soon the victories were coming, and the colonies won the war.

"I speak a little French and Latin, and hopefully by the time I submit my application; fluent Arabic." The most glaring omission from your list of GCSE subjects is a modern foreign language. The English Baccalaureate, which is set to be the minimum set of subject qualifications for university entrance, includes a foreign language. Just saying you can speak a little French isn't going to cut the mustard. Test results will. As for your AS/A2 choices, have you checked that Law is an acceptable subject to study Law at Oxbridge? There's some suspicion among the more academic universities about A-level Law - certain Law departments prefer more traditional A-levels such as English or a foreign language. Be wary about your GCSE Media Studies too. It's often regarded as a "soft option" for lower achievers.
